Tuesday 2nd February - Windsurf * - River Orwell at Nacton Shore – sunny start then rain – foul:(.

Foil – 8.63 knot max, 5.96 knot ave ., 0.13 knot hour , 0.00 knot mile , 5.26 km .,4.76 knot alpha.

Today promised so much and delivered absolutely nothing :( arranged to meet up with Ian at Nacton Shore for another foil. With high water at Ipswich at 3.17 I arrived by the Orwell at 11.30 and as usual I was way too early with the tide very low but I had a walk along the foreshore with my camera as the sun came out:) The breeze was still very light but I decided to set up my foil board as Ian arrived. We decided to rig a sail and hope for the breeze to fill in, I went for 7.8 while Ian 6.2 as the wind filled in. I set out with the tide still a little low and had to wade out several metres to find deep water as the sun disappeared taking what wind we had with it! I had a couple of floundering runs across the river hardly moving, at times I completely lost the wind all together! So, I headed back where Ian was watching. The gloom set in, you could hardly see the far bank of the river as the rain arrived, it was absolutely foul! The water did darken as the breeze tempted us both out onto the water, I nearly got the board flying once but the wind disappeared again, cold too, so we both backed up, complete waste of time. Could be it for awhile as getting cold again :(
